Edge 540
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:48:36 am »

Here's a model I am working on; it's my first real effort at an airplane, an Edge 540.  I've a few things to fix on this but i'm not aiming for perfection. Texturing is ongoing so it's not complete yet (ignore the grey bit at the front)...

also working on a Extra 300L.  Both planes will be part of a "red bull air race test animation".

Here was my first effort at animation, quality is very poor overall but i'm learning so get off my back!! ;)

The still looks great, the animation has more to offer.

For the model are you thinking about adding ailerons/rudder/elevators?

For the animation, the movements were far too sharp, but good effort.

Thx for the response machineman9,
For the model i hope to:
- add ailerons/rudder/elevators as you mentioned
- fix the cockpit
- improve the texture then i'll probably leave it.

For the animation I need to figure out an easier way to align the plane to the path.  I made the frame rate small cos it was just a test but future animations should be better.

I think what you need for the animation is less keyframes, as you want the flight to be much smoother.

Thanks hihosilver, but if the plane needs to turn/roll frequently how can I best maintain smoothness and keep the plane "on track" if u know what i mean,

One of the most useful tools to keep things smooth is the graph editor.  You can find it at "options>graph editor" in scene mode.  You can find a section in the manual explaining it Here near the bottom of the page.
