ah.

that would make sense.

trying it now.

EDIT: It would appear that that technique does not work on my particular flash drive. Oh, well. Thanks anyway, Claude.

General Anim8or Forum / Settings in the "Configure" Dialog

First off, a little background on my question:

As a high school student, I find very little time to work Anim8or at school, but when I do, I run off of my flash drive. The drive letter changes with every computer, so I have to reset the paths in the dialog every time I run it on a different computer than the one I last ran it on.

So my question is this:

Is it possible to set the paths relative to Anim8or's own directory, like you can set the location of a page to link to from an HTML document relative to the page's location?

get a flash drive (512MB-2GB), go to http://portableapps.com, and download their bare-bones suite, then download GIMPPortable. it's a free image-editing software package comparable to Adobe Photoshop, and it will run straight from your flash drive.

but the GIMP's native format, XCF, takes up around 10MB for a three-layer, 1024x768 image, so make sure you've got the room to mess around. it can export to JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, etc...

i had the same problem making a starfish. i'm pretty sure i had textures on, because i rendered a sword with environment maps that same day and the environment maps showed up fine.

there's no art raytracer in the older versions. it says that in the 0.97d forum.

what version are you using? 0.95 or 0.97d? i had texture capability with 0.95 and i still have it with 0.97d. post a screenshot of your materials dialog and i'll try to help you out.

not unless there's a download link for the character. it'd be nice if you could embed the character in the FLV file, though.

or you could go the really tough way, and use morph targets, setting one for each side the tail bends to. of course, that would entail moving AND rotating every ring of vertices around the tail. there's really no truly simple way to accomplish this.

or you could rig the shark with 10 or so bones from the point where you want it to bend and then use weights (maybe) or influences (probably better) to bend the shark that way.

once again, no easy way to accomplish it.
