General Anim8or Forum / Re: How did you find Anim8or?
« on: April 11, 2008, 08:20:48 pm »
Well I've been doing some modeling with autoCAD and 3d max in uni. I really liked it and googled for some similar app to work at home. When I came accros this website I was literally stunned by the size of Anim8or. Everything is kept so simple - amazing.
Oh, and I had some experience with the blender.. To be more precise - a few minutes. I downloaded it, installed it, had a look what's on the menu, clicked some buttons and threw it away. :) Not sure why, but I didn't like it at all.:P

Have you tried Genetica or MapZone for making textures?

What I do with organic type shapes is get as close to the desired shape as possible then subdevide it.

Talking 'bout organic shapes, my best practice is to start from simple shape and converting it to subdivided (don't use subdivide mesh unless you really need it). This way you get see smoothed mesh all the time while working with low poly mesh.

As hihosilver mentioned there are several modeling methods, but in any method you use tools provided (or external scripts). So as I said before when you are comfortable with all that sits in your tool panel, stuff in edit and build menus you get the idea on how to make high detail shapes.

Cheers

Hi,

everything starts from a simple shapes and you just add more details.. You have to be quite comfortable with all the tools provided, so you could get the desired result in reasonable time and effort.

That's were you have to count on your creativity :)

Well, I got this idea from the simple walk tutorial, but I am already downloading your suggested. I think I will get the point, thanks.

Hi all,

I've done quite a lot modeling now and wanted to get some info in making models "live" :)
Do I have to split the model into parts for each bone?

General Anim8or Forum / 3d text with custom font..
« on: March 27, 2008, 04:21:15 pm »
Hi all,

I am trying to make 3d text with custom font. Fisrt I tried to write text in paint and use is as a height map in Terrainim8or, but if I set high division settings I get loads of points (loads of work to simplify object), if I set low division settings I lose font details (loads of work dividing and fixing obj).
Maybe anyone knows better solution before I start the hardwork ???

Thank you.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: cutting out part of a circle help
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:33:54 pm »
To be honest, I don't realy understand.. ::)

I can see your mesh there and the dish inside. Because of the top face in the orho view dish is not visible. Is the dish sepatate mesh? If so, delete the top face, join solids (select both meshes and Build->Join solids) and create new edges from dish sides to circle sides (I used your pic :D). Then Fill holes with new faces (select four edges and Edit->Fill Holes).

Hope this will help. ;)

..like *.wad? I dont think so.. For all that I know the material system is based on separate textures/image files (difuse, spectacular, bump, etc)..

Hm.. a propper output (like msgBox) would be fabulous.. It might come with ASL update. If it's still not planed, Steve, please consider that ;)

You need an Editing software. I would suggest Wax: http://www.debugmode.com/wax/
It is quite powerfull as for freeware class (well they use hell of a software in holywood ::) ).

All you need to do is just import your vid into a video track and then import an audio track (or more)..

Oh, and VirtualDub is veeerrry usefull and powerful for video/audio compressing (well it has bit more features), but I doubt you can add audio with this tool..

Try playing with the UV tool. Try to scale and rotate..

..and in my opinion it is not a bug. Sometimes a desicion needs to be made by a human, otherwise you can program till death and not to achieve the goal ;)
