Finished Works and Works in Progress / Re: Old Coin (Fantasy/Own Creation)

ok, in latin font its:
sthexphrxcharls :P
nice render!
;D Sounds like a screen name! lol

*UPDATE*

OK, so tonight I was trying something new! Sculpting up some bricks individually and make a tillable brick wall texture. After a couple of texture tests first I got the concept down pat and went ahead and sculpted a couple bricks.

Models: Sculptris (A FREE version of ZBrush! GET IT!) http://www.sculptris.com/

Additional: Anim8or (Starting model for sculpting, arranging finished bricks in a pattern, cutting a block in two for tilability, and then a basic top down render for the height map. Phew!)

Textures: Paint.Net (Cleaning up Height Map, fixing some problems in the Height Map)

Render: CrazyBump (Print Screen)

Just another test as I only modeled 3 bricks and just did some simple 90° flips and arranging the bricks in an order which they don't appear to be the same bricks over and over. When I make the real texture, after I get better at using Sculptris, i'll make about 8-10 bricks for texture size and tiling reasons.

Polygons: 12

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Game Art (Testing Phase)

Hello,

Well, I figured I would post this up and continue updating as I progress in my project.

Model: Anim8or (Cylinder, lol)

Texture: Paint.Net (Decked out with a slew of plugins)

Render: CrazyBump ("Print Screen" key is awesome)

A Fantasy Coin which is in it's "clean" state right now, until I go in and rough up the model to make it look like a rough, hammered out coin, not a clean looking fresh from the mint coin as it is right now. This was also my first experiment with Displacement and Occlusion mapping. Coin textures and sizes are not final, only testing as of now. Any tips you can give me are welcome.

The coin was based on many old world cultures and methods of coin making. The text around the coin don't mean anything, it's just gibberish. Not until I finally get around to making my own language to use on this stuff, however until then keyboard smashing is pretty fun too.

All of this stuff I will be making will hopefully be put into a game i'm in the process of starting. (Demon's Souls got me back into loving RPG's again, now I want to start making one now for some odd reason?)

Right now i'm working on random stuff to see if this will even be possible with my current talents.

General Anim8or Forum / Re: I wanna go to school

Sorry to kind of bump this but once I read you were considering Westwood I HAD to post. One word of advice, you request information from them and you then decide not to go to them, they will NOT stop calling you. I was harassed for 3 months, 4-5 phone calls a day, all hours of the day, from two different numbers. I called the main office every 2-3 weeks, practically begging them to stop calling me, and it wasn't until I finally called the main office and threated them with a court appearance for harassment that they stopped.

Plus anyway, I could get into a way better school than Westwood for $80,843.00! I still have the .pdf files they had me download that show the real cost for all the programs they offer (if you would like them i could post them, if you still want to go), their website lies straight to your face. Also not to mention I had to practically talk my way out of being signed up THAT day for their program just for asking for more information!

I don't mean to burst your bubble if you had your heart set on this place, just thought I would give you some fair warning. If your still looking for schools I would keep looking, don't settle.

Any news on this front?

Not to sound hasty or anything, just there hasn't been an update in a while. I just wanted to know if this has been scrapped or not. Or maybe if anim8or .asl functions aren't capable of this yet.

@ Xalener
No, hes still working on it, it's just that he made some major improvements in the program and that requires lots of bug fixing and testing before release. Anyway, he only logs onto the forums to delete spammers and check his PM's, especially when there is a large project in the works. The least amount of time he spends on the forums the faster the update comes.

@jdonzae
I like this idea, I've always liked wacom tablets. I don't have one myself but my friend does and sculpting in Zbrush is so fun!

Hi Harnold,

Believe me friend I've tried it all too, not much of it helps. However, my Anim8or runs but it has a few problems, like random crashes or anim8or having other windows "bleeding" through into the viewport. I'm running vista by the way. I'm lucky I guess I don't have the problems you are having, but just like my problems it wont get any better until an update from Steve rolls around that supports vista and 7 more. I'm not quite sure why booting up in safe mode would work but normal wont, some driver or program has to blocking anim8or from running.

The only things I can think of are the standard walkthrough's for problems like this:

Do you have a firewall that could be blocking it from running?

Is there any error message or does it not even try to run.

Have you switched versions of anim8or to see if one version just may be the problem. (use 0.95 instead of 0.97d, or vice-versa)

Does windows 7 still have the UAC system? If so, try turn it off and trying it again.

Other than those it would be drivers, and those are a pain - in - the ...as...butt to find the offending one..

Hope this helps and if it doesn't hold hope someone else with windows 7 may know how to fix the problem.

I don't own 3DS max either, I just figured the tool would be extremely helpful.

However, from a quick search I found out that 3DS Max can use US Standard (Centimeters, inches), Metric (Meters, Millimeters) Or custom inputs (One unit could be 100 meters in customs settings.)

However after a few more searches I found out that these are the recommended settings.

1 unit = 1 centimeter (image below is more precise in values)

Not sure if this helps or not, i'm not a programmer ???

EDIT: I just found this, the standard when you install 3DS Max is 1 unit = 1 inch.

(...Then I remembered that 3D Studio Max has as unit default 1 unit = 1 inch (in System Units Setup -> System Units) and yes, 1 inch = 2.54 cm, a value very near to the factor my models where scaled up...)

http://forums.xna.com/forums/t/6909.aspx

it's your choice of which one you choose, which ever one works better in anim8ors default settings.

have a look here:
http://3dguru.wordpress.com/2007/05/14/tiptrick-edge-connect-and-loop-is-a-huge-modeling-time-saver/

On on that site you will notice three pictures towards the top of the page. The first image doesn't matter, the second image shows how anim8ors original connect edge tools works. You select an edge and it makes an edge loop. Now onto the third image this is where anim8or stops and 3DS max continues. In the 3DS max you can add segments, so instead of only one edge loop you make up to a 100 if you want, however i think anim8or would work better with a max of about 5 segments. You also see Pinch, pinch is how close the edge loops (the ones you just cut) are to each other. Slide is how far each edge loop is away from the bound edges. Now when you use slide or pinch the lines move along the original mesh, they do don't change directions meaning if you have a 45° (Degree) angle and you use the slide or pinch commands it will move the line along that 45° angle.

If you still don't understand what i'm talking about go here this a a tutorial on hard edges. This is the exact video i'm following to learn how to do real edge looping, that same techniques the pros use.

http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_studio_max/hard_surface_essentials/hard_surface_01.php

Requires: latest version of quicktime to play video.

ASL Scripts / Connect Edge?
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:38:47 pm »
Everyone knows that anim8or has a 'connect edges' tool, however it's not as "smart" as the other programs versions. Can anything be done, script wise anyway, to make it more like the 3DS Max version?

Now, for those of you that don't know what i'm talking about, lets say you have a simple shape, and you do connect edges on it. A box will appear with options like how many lines you want to add and a slider to allow you to slide the new line between the existing edges. When you slide the line it stays with the original meshes angle, meaning if it's a 45° angle the line will move up and down along that 45° angle not changing the mesh in any way.  Now how I achieved the images below is the standard way in anim8or, use Connect edges and then manually move the line back into the original angle, however that is very time consuming.

So, now tell me is there anyway to achieve this in anim8or with scripts?

Turning the Visual theme back to Windows 95/98 style works, I can at least, for the time being, switch to old style when I work on models. Will vista be supported in the next version of anim8or?

My Graphics card is an ' XFX 9600GT 512MB ' An my CPU is an ' AMD Athlon 7750 B.E. 2.7Ghz ' If my CPU Matters any, I've never had a computer this recent/up-to-date so I don't know.

My Graphics driver is the best I can get, ' 190.62 ' I've Uninstalled and reinstalled different versions, and the different versions from XFX and the ones from Nvidia, no different.

My Graphics card is really powerful; If can play Crysis on high at 25+ FPS I know I can use anim8or.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Vista Problem?
« on: October 01, 2009, 09:08:05 pm »
OK, I finally got a new computer, but I have a problem!

I've searched the forum and I found people with the same problem, but everyone said if you do these certain things it will fix it. I've done them all and nothing works!

I've set Vista in compatibility mode, I'm already Admin and I've updated/uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics card driver and turned on multithreaded support and it still happens. Why? Doing anything with anim8or is frustrating as I cant see what I'm doing.  Now, my question is: Is there anything I can do to stop this.
