Finished Works and Works in Progress / Tron-ish thing

I was bored, came up with this. Quite a bit of postwork in Photoshop to get it to look like this, originals in the next post.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / TBH's work for TransNeptune
« on: November 18, 2011, 08:05:34 am »
Made a "hot Neptune" texture. The idea is that if the sun is a red giant, Neptune will be much hotter than it is now, drastically altering its appearance. The texture I've attached is 1024x512, the full-size texture is 4kx2k. I've also attached a render using the small version (because this computer freezes up if I try to use the larger one).

Decided to model a space sphere from Portal 2. In case you haven't played Portal 2, he's a corrupt AI that is obsessed with space. Only two textures so far, both made in GIMP.

General Anim8or Forum / Anim8lr Tutorial - Realistic Planets
« on: July 20, 2011, 12:47:28 am »
I've seen plenty of planets made with Anim8or that suck pretty hard, so I wrote an Anim8or tutorial on how to make realistic planets with atmospheres. Read it here.

OK, I admit it, I used some VirtualDub and Windows Movie Maker effects in this video. But it is so awesome, IMO!

Enjoy! ;D

General Anim8or Forum / You know what I think would be nice?
« on: June 19, 2010, 01:27:04 am »
I think it would be cool if there was a way to get detailed planet models that look good from both the surface and from orbit. My idea is to have a sphere displaced randomly in one spot (preferably not near the poles to reduce pole-pinching on long/lat models) and the bigger it's scaled or the closer it is to the camera it is the more detail it would have in that region. I've attached a quick demo made in Sculptris:

General Anim8or Forum / Is this possible?
« on: May 05, 2010, 02:25:57 pm »
I'm wanting to create an effect where a jet of cosmic energy shoots from a wormhole into a planet, sending a shockwave across the surface that breaks the crust enough that it completely melts, then the entire planet explodes. I also want the jet to bounce off the planet like a jet of water or sand would do, then fade away after it gets too far away. I've attached a GIF animation to illustrate my idea.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / New Splash Screen?
« on: January 23, 2010, 08:17:33 pm »
Do you think I could make a new splash screen for Anim8or 0.97? My idea is to have a huge asteroid against a starfield background and then, in green Orbit-B BT, have the text:
Anim8or
0.97 Beta
I'll work on it and then post it so you can see what I mean.

General Anim8or Forum / Wipes out materials
« on: October 25, 2009, 03:43:08 pm »
I was trying to export a model for Terragen 2 in .obj format, and I decided to re-export that model as .3ds for Celestia. So I reopened the model, and I made the unfortunate discovery that Anim8or wiped out my materials!  >:( FIX THE THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NOW HAVE TO REMAKE THAT MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON"T HAVE THE AN8 FILE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mod Edit: Please don't make such outbursts, you have to implement your own safeguards when working with programs, especially when interchanging between different programs and formats
