General Anim8or Forum / Terranim8or Distortion: How to?
« on: March 01, 2014, 02:40:59 am »
One of my goals is to make a Myst-esque island. One idea I had to make things slightly easier on myself was to make some trees in Anim8or and then use the random distortion feature in Terranim8or to add, well, some random, hopefully organic looking, distortion, so I don't have to individually model every single tree from scratch. Still, I can't seem to grok how to do this. Little help, guys and gals, oh ye sages of greater knowledge?

Specifically, can you do this?
It would help awesomely for making trees, but I am not sure how to do it or if it's even possible

Finished Works and Works in Progress / Lil' Spaceman Model
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:55:56 pm »
I made this little spaceman over the last couple days and most of it went fairly quickly, at least for me. I might tweak the fingers to they are more cartoony proportions and make the the booties more detailed, but otherwise I like how it turned out. It's a mix of box modeling with some wirework, especially for the legs. I don't know if there is an officially term for wireing together shapes to other shapes and then adding surfaces, but I did a bit of that too, as I find it's a nice way to add detail. The chest plate mostly.
For once, I like how it looks both subdivided and normal.
All colouring is with materials, texturing is dark voodoo to me still.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / WIP; My First Person
« on: November 18, 2008, 10:25:11 pm »
Man, I feel like a first year apprentice tombstone carver showing off his best work in at a trade  show with Michelangelo.
It is humbling, let's put it that way.

The torso was done with wire modeling, as was the face, which was built around a an extruded path profile, then mirrored and joined. Except for the teeth and eye brows, which are lifted facets. The legs and arms are extruded facets, the hands are box modeling, using the basics from the tutorial on this site. The shoes are a  half dodecahedron primitive, with more wire modeling for the back of the foot, and some lifted faces for the heels. The hair is another dodecahedron primitive, with chunks cut out and some wire modeled 'strands', then whatever you call it when you create another inner surface on a model to add depth.

It's my best work yet, and took me about a day of near constant work.

My latest effort, the Ministry of Incarceration Prison Ship: Persephone. As yet, uncolored.

This is the first time I have ever tried to model something that looks like a building, I would say I have spent 8 hours on it in total. I have been using anim8or off again on again for 6 months, and I would say this is my best thing yet. If anyone has any tips on building building I would appreciate it, as well as general critiques.

Thanks in advance
