General Anim8or Forum / modeling for print
« on: November 04, 2015, 07:03:22 pm »
Any tips?

I'm thinking the best way is to model the character rig then pose it.

Rather than modeling in it's pose.

Which do you you think would be easier?

General Anim8or Forum / Anim8or on Windows 10
« on: July 29, 2015, 06:01:01 pm »
I just installed Windows 10 today and it doesn't work. I'm playing around with compatibility modes but I haven't had any luck yet. Anyone know a way to run Anim8or on Windows 10?

(I'm using the 1166 version, so I'm not even sure that's the latest version.)

Ongoing Anim8or Development / Wireframe mode hides reference image
« on: July 07, 2014, 05:37:09 pm »
1.088

I played around in the settings but still nothing. When I go to wireframe view it looks like a transparent face.

Edit: Sorry I'm not sure if this is a bug or a settings thing. You can go ahead and move it if it's a bug.

General Anim8or Forum / Pixar Renderman
« on: June 03, 2014, 06:45:56 pm »
It's not anim8or related, but I think it's too good to pass up. I really don't know anything about the program, but I know it made the Toy Story movies, as well as some of their other movies.

The are giving it away for free and I like free stuff. You need to register for it at the pixar website.

Just thought I'd let you guys know about it.

General Anim8or Forum / using anim8or as a mechanical cad program
« on: June 01, 2014, 09:26:38 pm »
I've been searching the forums and I haven't found a whole lot. It looks like Steve is making some cad functionality, but I don't think it's nearly finished. I tried out the ruler and I don't understand it at all.

Is there a script/plugin that has a ruler? Mainly one on point edit mode.

Has anyone used anim8or for precise mechanical modeling for 3d printing?

I'd rather not succumb to this, but do you know of another open source program with what I'm looking for? (I'd honestly rather model in anim8or, but if it doesn't have the capabilities yet I'll have to find another program.)

In case you are wondering what I'm going to do, I'm going to print out an RC car. I'm going to build every part including the engine.

General Anim8or Forum / When I click something on the forums I get ads.
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:49:11 pm »
Subject kind of sums it up. I'm not sure if I have some sort of a virus or if this is how it is now.

When I clicked the FORUM tab it sent me to a download page for java. It wasn't the official java website either.

I clicked on a picture to make it bigger in the WIP section, and it sent me to another site for a different download.

There are also the blue links in the content, so if you hover over it ads pop up.

Let me know if this is something just on my end, or if this is the new normal.

General Anim8or Forum / Mirrored checkbox
« on: November 25, 2013, 05:32:12 am »
When you double click your mesh, the box pops up with the location and smooth angle settings. On the right of the smooth angle, there is a checkbox that says 'mirrored'.

How do you use it?

I hope it functions like I think it does. You select one side of your mesh and it manipulates the other side. If that's not the case, please elaborate.

Thanks.

Finished Works and Works in Progress / It's been a while.
« on: November 25, 2013, 03:10:09 am »
I haven't messed with anim8or, nor any other 3d software, in a long time. It seems like I came in at a good time too. Anim8or v.98 :). I'm glad to see more progress in anim8or.

Well, I started a character. It's not very good, but it's a (re)start. I really am just getting the basic shapes and loops down, then I can make some details. I'm going for a "cartoony" look. Here's where I'm at now.

Edit: Here's a wire frame too.

Edit 2: Looks like you get to watch Netflix with me ☺.

General Anim8or Forum / Is there any progress updates?
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:44:55 pm »
I still lurk around here from time to time. I'm just wondering if there is a status availible on anim8or. Anim8or is still my "go to" program for modeling. I'm just curious and I wan't to know what's going on. Thanks.

General Anim8or Forum / piles of dirty clothes
« on: February 17, 2012, 07:15:45 pm »
im working on a project and im wonder what the best way to go about this is. im only using anim8or for modeling.

i can think of two options

1) model the entire piles of clothes in anim8or

2) model clothes individually in anim8or and use soft bodies in another program to layer the clothes into a pile.

any thoughts?

General Anim8or Forum / changing materialls on the fly
« on: June 04, 2011, 01:55:31 pm »
seems like i cant do this with morphe targets but i could just be doing it wrong.

say u have a sphere with a drawn on face. the 1st drawing is a normal face the 2nd is a smile, 3rd is a frown and so on.

ill keep messing with it but it will help if some1 knows a good way to do it.

ASL Scripts / automated bones
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:42:58 am »
just a thought.

is it possible to program bones to do a certain function?

my idea is to have a bone do something (such as sway) linked up with the frames.

you could simulate things such as wind by having the bones 'move' until the commanded 'stop' at a certain keyframe.

hopefully this is enough info for you to grasp what im getting at.

(after seeing raxx's new program i honestly think almost anything can be done in anim8or.)

well. its one of my favourite of time characters ever invented. ever since i was a wee young lad watching one of these things kick arnolds ass in the jungle ive fallen in love with this ugly thing.

im trying to make a highly detailed full model. im at the point in my learning of modelling that i really only have problems with the shoulders. im not completely lost with deformation any more it just takes some (a lot) of tweaking.

im going to try and do this right. i dont have a whole lot of experience with texturing but i think my theory is pretty sound. i usually make a model one full model but once i complete the model i will break it up into parts so that my unwrapper will pick it up easier then i can piece it all together when its textured.

my plan is to have one body complete with accessories and have his head separate, ill have a masked and unmasked version. hopefully his mask will fit on his face and ill just have to make the mask to fit over his face but i dunno how that will work yet.

well here are some test renders. i am having trouble with his jaw and lips cause its just really wierd. but i think ill figure it out by just messing with it.
