I'm not really sure if I understand what you want to do, but I would try lathing...

Just draw a spline in the shape you need and click Build>Lathe...

The best you can do is to check the tutorials Kreator recommends you; anyway, if you want a short basic explanation, here it goes:

1. Select the faces in the area where you want tho hole to be; if you need more exact shape, first do Edit>Subdivide Faces and move some points to get the shape you want.
2. Once you have several faces forming the shape of the desired hole,  you just need to need to "push it back". Select the faces and use "Extrude connected" tool.

I recommend reading Object Editor/Point Edit mode section in the manual, you'll be surprised how many useful tools you can find...

Oh yes, I guess I didn't explain the "method 1" good enough... Look at Rudy's image and explanation, I think it's perfect..

Anyway, when I tried this, the result was much better when I used the spring plugin... Good luck

Well, here is how I would do:

1. Make two (or more) cylinders close to each other, use "convert to mesh" and "join solids" comands so you'll get one mesh consisting of two cylinders... and then use twist modifier; the only problem is that the twist modifier has limit of 360 degrees, so you would have to use it many times...

2. Use a spring plugin (I think you will vind it in the "scripts" section...); if you make two springs and play with "diameter", "offset" and "spread" parameters, you can gat a very nice result;
If you need just a simple ilusion of twisted rope, you can also use one spring with "offset" 0 and "sides" 3...

I dont know the full capablities of anim8or and how to utulize them that is my only problem. Like if I wanted to make a cat or something the first thing that comes to my mind is take a sphere and work with that but people say that you need to use line extruding or something, ok great input but how do I do that? (all of these are just examples) I just need to know how to fully utilize the program before I do some major experimenting.

The best way to find out all the program capabilities is to experiment with it... Just read the whole manual (I suppose you've already done, just try once more), every tool is described there so you'll now tha basics what Anim8or can do and what it can't do; anyway, that's not really what it's all about, you just need to get some crazy idea (something like "now I'll make a model of my entire house with every detail..."); In fact, almost everything is possible in anim8or if you are inventive and patient.
The more dificult project you try, the better; even if you don't finish it, you will definitely learn a lot about using Anim8or... Just choose a really dificult one, that's my recommendation...

To set how the edge will look after subdivision you must use "rounded" value.

I think -100 value doesn't work... Why can't you just invert the images in photoshop or any program??

Great... I agree with hiho that the ground outside is really missing... Anyway the models are great! I also like the animation, I love how the spider drops from the ceiling :)

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Texture "transparency"
« on: January 01, 2008, 09:03:14 am »
It is possible. there are two ways how to make this. The first one is simplier, but the second one allows you to make semi-transparent material.

1.
Edit your texture image in Photoshop (or any other program...) so all the places which should be invisible on the model will be transparent in the image (.gif format supports transparency)

Open material settings window in Anim8or and click "textures" button in the middle of the window. Click "..." button in "Diffuse" row and select your transparent .gif image. Then click "md" button in Diffuse row and set "Alpha mode" to "Final"

2.
First make alpha mask of your image: make 2 colours version (black-white) of your image; remember: black means transparent, white means visible; you can also use gray colors to make it semi-transparent.

Now you have two images )original and alpha); open material settings window in Anim8or and click "textures" button in the middle of the window. Click "..." button in "Diffuse" row and select the original colored texture. Then click "..." button in "Trans." row and select your alpha image. Transparency value in the main material window must be "1" and "Trans." % value in texture window should be 100...

Good luck...

General Anim8or Forum / Re: How bout' an anim8or book?
« on: December 28, 2007, 06:49:06 am »
The problem with posting it on the internet is if ur on the road having the tutorial on one window and anim8or in another on the same desktop, sometimes gets annoying.Luckily, i'm running Mac so Mac has Spaces.;D

You're right... but the problem with the book is it costs money, someone has to publish it etc - what is easier? In the end there is only one realizable way...

blender was really used in spider man 2 wow
but really why does anim8or need publicity
okay if people want to use okay but really compared to profesianal programs why is it worthit to publisize.

I agree with this...
I think it would be helpful for the beginners if someone (who?) wrote the book, but this book would have to be available online and for free. It would just be something like manual + plenty of tutorials + examples + much more all organised in one system, searchable and transparent, easy to use...
But who would do something like this for free? Collect and revise all the tutorials, rewrite the manual and update the "book" everytime something new appears... I think one person can't do that all. It would have to be something like wiki system, but then I think it would be all messed up and unorganized.
What we have now is a plenty of tutorials and hints scattered on many sites, but in the end everyone finds what he needs...
Of course if someone starts something like "Anim8or knowledge wiki project", I'd love to participate...

Maybe I can help you if you specify your reyuest better.
If you want to learn how to use controller scripts (as described in the manual: "Animating with expressions" and "Controller scripts"), I can help you; it's the simplest part of script writing (and the only I've managed to learn).
If you want to learn how to write more complex scripts such as parametric mesh plugins etc., I can't help you because I don't know anything about this...

Lol very funny
How did you do the rope bending on the sled.

Thanks...
I made a figure from the sled and added several bones to the rope; then animated it normaly as you do with any figure... Many people forget that Figure Editor doesn't have to be used only for chraracters :)
