Ongoing Anim8or Development / Re: Normal Maps
« on: January 28, 2016, 03:52:09 am »
Wow, nice new feature, Steve! It's a great step for Anim8or. My viewport was messing up because of the GLSL shader issues with my (Nvidia) graphics card, but it's looking promising!

Raxx, I tried out your model in 3d Studio Max and I think you have answered your own question already earlier. Try checking 'flip green' in the normal map.

Hey, looking good!

Maybe something to think about is the camera height. At the moment it looks like it's at around 2,5 meters ( 8+ feet ) , which makes the house look a bit miniature. Maybe if you put the camera at eye-height the sense of scale will be better?

Nice cheese there, Ronald de Boer! (Always wondered if your screen name is after the soccer player   ;) )

Anyway, as a Dutch person I can say out of experience that it is rare to see a Dutch cheese without at least some holes (bubbles) in it. just a few will do.
see the picture:
http://www.wageningenur.nl/upload_mm/d/d/8/cf24f60a-a1a9-416e-92e3-b45df1828643_shutterstock_14301859_kaas_punt_geel_voedsel_zuivel_gouda_LR_490x330.jpg
Also, if you want to improve it further, as you can see as a cheese ripens over time, the yellow gets slightly darker on the outside of the cheese. You could  add a texture for some realism.

In all, I like the cheese, but you could make it look a little more yummy by adding some realism :D

Thanks Steve and Ronald!

Emittor, of course! Didn't you make a lot of the Dutch transportation system? ;)

General Anim8or Forum / Re: Graphics cards question
« on: December 28, 2014, 05:39:55 am »
Hey Johnar,

I'm sorry I'm not an expert on these matters.. But I thought I'd give you my two cents..

I don't know what your budget is for a new card, but it seems to me that buying an 8+ year old second-hand card might not be the most reliable option. When I needed a new card for my older computer (similar, maybe slightly higher specs than yours, but now about 7-8 years old) I got the (semi)cheapest new graphics card I could find that fit the slot on my computer (Geforce GT 610) for about 30 euros. Everything runs perfectly smooth, including 1080p movies, most games that I do (I'm not a gamer ;) ) and never have a glitch in 3d.

I think getting a new card would be more reliable (+ warrenties) and more adjusted to everyday tasks right now than an old card that was more high-spec back then. I would just look at low-end new cards ( http://goo.gl/z8xwlE ) But that is just my experience... I'm sure someone below can give you a more expert opinion ;) Good luck!

Just want to wish everyone that celebrates it happy holidays!
And I hope you will get what you wished for just like our little friend below ;)

Made and rendered in anim8or, post-production in Photoshop.
I've attached a render of the gifts in the background as well.

Haha I know how you feel Arik.. But don't worry, we don't have to make anything too difficult..
When I have some time I'll see if I can dive into this as well.. Was thinking about making a random squash generator, but maybe I should start with something easier ;)

Can't wait for your tree generator, Raxx! There's a need for a good one.. Make sure to give the option for groups of transparency-map leaves instead of mesh leaves maybe?

ASL Scripts / Re: [ TUTORIAL ] [ INTERMEDIATE ] N-Gon Parametric Shape
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:28:15 am »
Nice tutorial, Randall!

It explains a lot of valuable ASL specific syntax. The explanations are very clear and easy to follow for a novice like me.

One note: when the amount of sides gets over 250 the created face gets clipped. Maybe there is a max amount of sides a face can have? In that case maybe lowering the limit would prevent this.

I'm sure I can use this tutorial to build on for future scripts!

Haha funny as always .. looking good, daniel! Was missing your stuff.

Is it made/rendered in anim8or?

I can't crit too well, because of the lighting and grain, but from what I can see it is looking really good & scary!
As far as realism goes - especially the skin material doesn't look lifelike yet, the biggest problem being that anim8or can't do SSS. You could fake it using an emissive map on parts where light 'shines through'.. This works mostly for stills though, in an animation the light would be coming from different directions. Not sure how to fix it in that occasion. maybe a very glossy reflective material might give it an interesting effect.

Good job!

btw- this might belong in the WIPs section?

Looking great, Raxx!
that's one character all modeled, cool!

I've made a tree to go with the house
Kept the leaves pretty big, so that it won't have too many polies, hope it looks good enough though.
Added the tree to the main file:

General Anim8or Forum / Re: merge points
« on: October 17, 2013, 04:28:23 pm »
Hey tomasball,

unfortunately, no. As far as I know, it merges towards the latest created point.

A way to go around it would be to use the knife tool to cut over the point you want to merge to, this will add (a) point(s) in the vicinity of that point, then select the whole bunch and merge, it should merge to the latest created point (the one you just cut).
If there is an easier way I would love to hear it, this is always a difficult point. (no pun intended)

Alright, here's an updated file with all the elements included & all the textures. See the render for the total picture.

I've added some deck chairs to the mix.
There is also an Object with just the elements that make up the different ground planes on which the grass can be spread using Raxx' PHur plugin.

CD: I guess any tree would do, an old one would  be nice of course :P I'll fix the shingles for you !

Don't worry about the time - there are some other things that  need to be modeled as well in the meantime.

Yea lizards aren't really made to cycle, maybe we can lower the seat for him? or let the frog do all the work ;)

Not sure if it would be tier 2 or 3.. But the ability to area render would be nice (aka selecting an area that will be rendered instead of the whole image) So test rendering is a lot faster without having to render the whole image.
