well now i've added an engine. A texture is in progress. I finally got unwrap 3d working. I had to use an XP VM because it crashed on win7.

I believe it is required for boolean operations. Also renderers require models to be made only of triangles because they are always coplanar.

I actually tried bumpmapping to raise the symbols, but it actually made it look worse.

Try using the subdivision tool to sculpt the basic model. You'd be amazed at what a single application will do for your base models appearance

especially if you apply it to an extruded spline.

it was the left button in the figure but the center one in the sequence editor. on win7. but it was the left in xp.  ::) sigh
