General Anim8or Forum / Re: Reflection...
« on: April 27, 2010, 11:54:13 am »
Are your using a .97 version of a file? If you started the project in .95, it seems that some of the effects don't happen (at least for me). If that's the case I'd try to make a new project in the newer version. Otherwise, check your spelling, once I was trying to have a glossy attribute. I had named the attribute specular (make sure you didn't capitalize anything by the way, I done that too), set it to be a string, and typed glossy`. I don't know how I accidentally pressed the "`" key, but I did. The picture below shows reflection as a string inside the specular attribute (I set them up as separate attributes at first). So I hope this helps.

Thank you! But I'm confused on how you do this in Anim8or, that thread discusses the concepts, but is not platform specific (a good thing when discussing concepts, but then the user only has some of the info...) Thanks again!

I'm just wondering, are lighter colors exposed to bump up or down? I could really use this...

I have only 16 lights (though I need more), and I plan (time allowing) to add fingerprints on some of the mirrors. I think that might be funny. Thank you $imon!

Ok, I know I just posted, but lighting doesn't take that long for me. I also changed the light strip to a single light to save on render time for the sake of number of lights. What's the best way to dim the lights?

Alright, I know I didn't get much done over the weekend, but here is a newer version. Does the picture look better with the pillars and light strips?

Basically the pillars are technicly frames, but they are shaped and look like pillars. I think that's what I plan to use.

I know what the cut tool is, but the way it's refered to is confusing me. I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but does anything else have a name sorta like Loop cut? Maybe I'm just thick headed or misconstruing something. Thanks neirao for trying to help. I appreciate such effort.

Looking through these forums, I keep finding things about loop cutting... the thing is I don't know what it is or what it is for. It pops up all over the place, so I'm betting it is quite useful. Could someone please help me figure it out? Thank you.

I love how this is challenge is coming along, it's just as much fun looking at other people's ideas as making one! 3DGeek, I was debating on that and sort of tryed it. What do you (and other people) think would look better, pillars or frames? Both are commonly used, and I'm not sure what would fit better with a celestial design. :-\ I know I need to change the grass texture to something different... I'm thinking of changing it to a black ground, then the blue ground in front of the camera would need to change to something too, i'm thinking of a lighter blue or a yellow (the blue spot is shaped like a star). This is my new setup for the mirrors, it is set up on an array of triangular n-gons for positioning.

So, on the note of my above post, here is the new setup. No lighting or shadows yet...
