Andrew: Hav`nt gone at all, far from it,  there just seems to be a permanent Hiatus on any progress with Anim8or, we are now looking at four years since any Preview, the last I heard from Steve G was that he was working on a realtime mirror, but that was around that time. Blender has come on in leaps and bounds with inbuilt Sculpting, UVmapping and Skeletons (ready Built ) whilst we are always scrapeing about working with umpteen tools to get a decent result. And don`t forget this is free as well.

Carrara is a stop gap I have not used it for sometime now, But Blender in its present form is, I think, better than even Carrara.

Whilst its early days and I`m just following the latest tutorials hear are just some of the bits I have done over the past week with it

The last two are WIPS which I hope to have completed and animated by the end of the week.

So at this moment in time, I will concentrate on blender until such times as there is an anim8or update.

Blick Fang: You don`t need a subscription to see most of the stuff on Anim8orWorld , members are allowed to view most threads guests are not ( Which is usual for most boards including this one)The Subs are for Downloads and such in The Media Gallery. I noticed you were one there just the other day. We need input, not comments on other Forums.

In a nutshell I have not gone just having a Hiatus myself. I will always support Anim8or on Anim8orWorld.com  for the foreseeable future.

nice work Kevin, the interface looks much cleaner than it used too!
For me, the most modelling I do at the moment is taking apart other people's (purchaesed) models and canabalising the bits. :)
Oh what joy to have some fun with other people's bits.....
But seriously, looks good for organics .

The only thing I ever really missed in anim8or was an easy to use soft select.

hya ensonq5 et al

yes the anim8or manual tells it as it is

print it out and lug it around, read it from cover to cover
and make things,
just model till you drop

the only short cut is to do it, there's no other way

there's plenty of tuts in modelling on the net
most of the tuts can be used in anim8or

sorry to see you go kevin, dunno why you don't stick with carrara and anim8or
anim8or went into cardiac arrest because of dilution of the forums

not because Steve didn't make an anim8or version 1.1 or whatever

each to his own of course,

blender is good program from what I can see
good luck in your endeavours
I'm sure you will rock!

Anim8or Challenges / Re: Challenge suggestions.
« on: October 09, 2012, 04:37:18 pm »
:D Anim8ion? Gee, no one could be even bothered doing a still render for the last challenge... er I love reading the excuses... I was going to do something but I got toob usy and realised my shoelaces were different lengths so I had to go to my mothers and feed the cat because there was a slight possibility of rain in the next eight years and you know what rain means don't you? that means that I was going to enter this contest but my foot got stuck in my mouth and then the gee key on the keyboard got stuck and then I forgot what I was doing......

Sorry :)
Heh. :)

I suggest we do the Eggplant tutorial again, just like in the old days, where Hiho won when he was about five years old.....
Seriously, who can make up an excuse for not doing an anim8or eggplant render ......

Hmm

Anim8or was and still i s a great tool.
Of course it falls down in some respects - like the interface that Raxx made his tool thingy to update.
Unfortunately it didn't work for me in Vista but I can imagine it goes along way to making anim8or a much quicker modeller.

But all soft ware falls down somewhere...

Having modelled for years I only do simple modelling now - like a wheel barrow or a hat or something that I can't buy.
I've done the ropes _ I can make a reasonable figure in a few days - or I can buy one for a coupla bucks and morph it/texture it useing the skills that I learnt with anim8or.

Daz's Hexagon is now free, but anim8or has the advantage of having a simpler and more concise and intelligent tool set.
It's still ideal for the starting modeller - the only real thing I would like to see is soft select that doesn't have  to be done by using a script... (assuming that's how it is still done?)

You could make a fair amount of money being a modeller who made models with anim8or and sold them at Daz - box modelling especially would be fast and efficient with anim8or. You'd need another texture tool. Blacksmith 3d is presently haf price - but Uvmapper Pro is a good tool (thanks Raxxx!!!)

There's nothing wrong with anim8or. Even if Steve lets the community die it doesn't detract from the brilliant software he has made.
And it doesn't detract from the hundreds of modellers/3d people he must have helped launch on their Careers who I'm sure would thank him if they weren't too busy .....

cheers from Oz

Anim8or Challenges / Re: Challenge #30: Construct8or
« on: September 02, 2012, 04:56:22 am »
sorry ian
anim8or was once a thriving community
then it split into two forums then four
then two
then one and a half,
then people couldn't register here

now they can but I guess t hey have stopped trying
all very sad
historically anim8or has always been for people starting off in 3d, then moving on
without new members the attrition takes it's toll
it's a good set you  made
don't let it get you down

PS I found it a lot easier to select all the meshes and choose rotate none. it makes it much easier if you export to another program as an example - for lining up things. I didn't realise that when I made my first piece.
