« on: May 08, 2008, 12:47:36 am »
Polly is an OpenGL base game engine that has direct Anim8or support.  In the near future the source will be available under to GPL license.  Written by Nicolaas.  http://www.irio.co.uk/index.php?page=polly

I haven't had time to try it yet so if you do let us know!

There is a bug in volume shadows in the scanline renderer.  If you're using them then try switching to ray traced shadows.

Can you send me a (simple if possible) project that shows this?  And the steps to reporduce it?  It looks like there is a problema and I'd like to fix it but won't be sure I do without an example from you (since I might be seeing something differect, or whatever).

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: can there be advanced mirroring?
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:43:53 pm »
Continuous mirroring of a mesh is a great idea - suggested by numerous people (including me) and I plan to add it when I next work on the modeler (soon after v0.97 stuff settels down).

Can you send me a .an8 project (and the pluig-in you're using) that shows this problem?  I definitely want to fix it.

Anim8or v0.98 Discussion Forum / Re: No light on back of a face ! !

The ART raytracer doesn't flip a surface's normal whtn it's pointed away from the light.  That causes problems for some of the more advanced materials and isn't really realistic.  (There are no infinitely thin surfaces in the real world which is what the scanline renderer is assumong.)

As CobraSpectre pointed out the shell tool is a good way to gove thes objects some thickness.

Yes, volume shoudows should work.  But they don't.  I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find the cause but haven't been able to.  Sorry but that's just the way it is.

mcheccyb, yes, this is what it is supposed to do.  From the notes on the ray tracer page: "The [specular->reflection] result is multiplied by the materials specular weight, Ks..."

When using the Text tool hot keys aren't available becuse key strokes go to the Text object.  (Otherwise you couldn't change them :)

General Anim8or Forum / Interview with Tyson Ibele
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:45:30 am »
Tyson Ibele first used Anim8or when he was 13 back in 2000.  He's a very talented animator and is now working professionally in New Zealand.  Here is an inteview with him that shows some of his amazing work and give a little advice on how to improve your animation skills.  (Don't miss his reference to Anim8or in the quote below the video :-)

.as8 format is just a text file with an .as8 extension instead of .txt.

Yes, this can crash in v0.97.  I'll look into it.  Thanks for the bug report.
